Applications Now Open: The Laidlaw Research and Leadership Programme
30 November 2020
First year undergraduate students, apply now!
The Laidlaw Scholarship is a programme of activities which runs from the second term of your first year to the first term of your third year. It's a chance for you to:
- develop and practise leadership skills through training and activities.
- contribute to UCL’s research, working with academic staff on questions of global significance.
- be part of a high-performing group of students from across UCL.
- enhance your CV and employability for the future.
All Laidlaw Scholars will undertake an independent piece of academic research lasting six weeks in their first summer. As Laidlaw Scholars you will receive a stipend of around £3,300 per year in your first and second years. As you will not be able to work during the six-week summer research / leadership periods, this will cover your accommodation and living costs during that time.
The Bartlett School of Planning has put forward one project for this year's scholarship. You can find more details here: https://www.ucl.ac.uk/laidlaw-scholarships/projects#Bartlett
Both our previous Laidlaw researches have had wide national coverage after being launched at the annual Place Alliance conference to an audience of around 200 built environment professionals, including representatives from RIBA, RTPI, GLA, MHCLG, TCPA. Last year's research, a National Housing Audit for England, was shortlisted for the RTPI Research Excellence award 2020.
Our previous Laidlaw students, Fola Olaleye and Anastassia Gusseinova have been Awarded the UCL Faculty Undergraduate Scholarships for Excellence and Faculty Medal Prize 2019/20.
