Application Process
- 1. Choose your programme
We have eleven postgraduate degrees. Explore our programme pages to find the best choice for you.
- 2. Check entry requirements
You can check entry requirements for each programme on the UCL prospectus pages.
- 3. Check application deadlines
You can check application deadlines for each programme on the UCL prospectus pages. Please note that deadlines are not the same across all programmes and may be different for different modes of study. Application deadlines are final and we are unable to offer exceptions.
- 4. Submit your application online
Postgraduate applications are made directly to UCL. Click on the blue Apply button on your chosen programme's UCL prospectus page to complete your application. We do not conduct interviews.
- 5. Await a decision
You can follow the progress of your application via the UCL application portal. An email will be sent to you telling you how to log on to the UCL Applicants Portal after you have submitted your form.
We will aim to send you a decision within 8 weeks, however at certain points in the year the decision may take longer due to the high volume of applications we receive. Please note that we cannot begin to process your application until we have received your two references.
FAQs
- Can I attend an open day?
Yes, we will be advertising our next virtual open day on our website soon. Please check back soon.
- Can I apply for more than one programme?
Yes, you can apply for more than one of our programmes at the same time but can only accept one offer from us. Please note that you will be required to pay the application fee for each application.
- My application has been unsuccessful, can I apply for feedback?
Unfortunately, due to the number of applications we receive, we are unable to offer feedback.
- My application has been unsuccessful, can I appeal the decision?
Decisions on the admission of applicants are final and there is normally no right of appeal.
Complaints relating to an applicant for admission will be considered if there is substantive evidence of irregularity in the procedure under which the application has been processed. Complaints should be addressed to bartlett.pgclerk@ucl.ac.uk.
- I've received a conditional offer, what's next?
Your offer will stipulate the evidence of qualifications and English proficiency that we require from you and the deadline for you to send them to us.
- I've received an unconditonal offer, what's next?
Congratulations! We hope you are looking forward to joining us. You will be sent an email towards the end of August inviting you to start the online enrolment process. In the meantime, you may wish to visit our dedicated 'Postgraduate offer holders' page to find out all you need to know about your studies before September.
- I can't come this year after all, can I defer my offer?
Please email your request to defer to your Programme Administrator, whose contact details are listed on the programme page. Please include your student number, full name and programme of study. Your request will need to be approved by the Admissions Tutor. You will receive confirmation of this via email.
- Can I change my mode of study?
Please email your request to change your mode of study to your Programme Administrator, whose contact details are listed on the programme page. Please include your student number, full name and programme of study.
Please note that the application deadline for full-time study may be before the part-time or modular/flexible deadline. We cannot approve requests to change from part-time or modular/flexible to full-time after the full-time deadline has passed.
- What is the difference between a postgraduate diploma and an MSc?
A postgraduate diploma consists of 120 credits of taught modules, whereas an MSc consists of 180 credits of taught modules, including a 60 credit dissertation or project.
- What is the difference between the part-time and modular/flexible modes of study?
Students enrolled on the modular/flexible mode of study have between 2 and 5 years to complete the programme and can choose to register on as many or as few modules as they wish each year. The part-time route must be completed within 2 years and is only available for those applying for a student loan. Please note that your programme may have prerequisite modules which you are required to take before others.
Tuition fees are also calculated differently. Modular/flexible students will pay on a modular basis. Part-time students will pay half of the full fee each year.
