Join us on 6 February 2025 for the launch of Dr Francesca Froy’s new book ‘Rebuilding Urban Complexity: A Configurational Approach to Postindustrial Cities’. hosted by The Bartlett School of Planning (Everyday Economies Research Cluster) and The Bartlett School of Architecture (Space Syntax Lab, UCL). In collaboration with the University of Oxford’s Sustainable Urban Development Programme. Francesca will introduce her new book exploring how urban complexity evolves and how it gets destroyed – drawing on the former industrial city of Manchester as its main case study but also featuring Sheffield and Newcastle. She will be joined by a panel of speakers from The Bartlett Faculty of the Built Environment, UCL and the University of Oxford including, Dr Jess Ferm, Dr Sam Griffiths, Professor Neave O’Clery and Dr Patricia Canelas.

The reviews are already in:

“Francesca Froy presents a fresh and insightful perspective on deciphering the intricate fabric of cities and their local economies…with a captivating style, Froy unveils the hidden threads that shape urban life, offering readers a compelling journey into the heart of urban complexity." (Dr. Vinicius Netto, University of Porto).

Francesca Froy charts the evolution and integration, the complexity and morphology of a place made by people and the materials they consume, process and rely on. Relying on a wider range of sources than almost any other book of this kind, the result is an academic masterpiece.” (Professor Danny Dorling, University of Oxford).
