This session combines a book launch, an update on research on housing quality, and an outline of the new TCPA campaign for ‘Healthy Homes’.

During the session, Ben Clifford (UCL) will outline the research he conducted with Jessica Ferm, Nicola Livingstone and Patricia Canelas on office-to-residential permitted development and introduce their new book,Understanding the Impacts of Deregulation in Planning: Turning Offices into Homes?, which has just been published by Palgrave (https://www.palgrave.com/gb/book/9783030126711).

Matthew Carmona (UCL) will then compliment the presentation by discussing recent research on local councillor views on the design of housing development and an audit of national housing development.

Hugh Ellis (TCPA) will conclude by explaining the new campaign for ‘Healthy Homes’, which responds to concerns about planning deregulation and housing quality by calling for framework legislation to guarantee ten design, safety and placemaking principles to help ensure a ‘decent’ home for everyone (https://www.tcpa.org.uk/healthy-homes-act). After an open discussion on the issues raised, there will be a drinks reception. A discount code for copies of the Ben Clifford et al book will be available at the event.
