Priti Parikh, Professor of Infrastructure Engineering and International Development and Director of The Bartlett School of Sustainable Construction, represented UCL and the Institution of Civil Engineers (ICE) at the 19th International Architecture Exhibition of La Biennale di Venezia, participating in a high-profile panel discussion on Collective Baukultur.
The session, curated by the World Economic Forum on behalf of the Davos Baukultur Alliance, brought together international experts to explore approaches to quality planning, construction and management of inclusive, sustainable and vibrant communities. Prof Parikh highlighted the critical importance of the four C's – culture, context, community and collaboration – in creating sustainable and inclusive cities of the future, with a particular focus on addressing the needs of youth and children.
The Davos Baukultur Alliance is a global initiative dedicated to advancing quality in the built environment through collaborative approaches that respect cultural contexts while addressing urgent challenges such as climate change, urbanisation and social inequality.
The panel included Hon Minister for Malaysia Zaliha Mustafa, Claudia Acuña and moderator Antonio Gomez-Palacio, with coordination from World Economic Forum convenors Vivian Brady-Phillips, Tom Selby and Oliver Martin.
During the Biennale, ICE also announced its formal joining of the Davos Baukultur Alliance, strengthening the engineering profession's commitment to creating built environments that serve both people and planet.
Thrilled to be part of the Biennale and contribute to discussions on different types of intelligence to work together to rethink the built environment and challenges facing it such as climate change. Fantastic to meet Carlo Ratti the brilliant curator of this exciting Biennale.
