Congratulations to Daniel Widrig, Lecturer at The Bartlett School of Architecture, on the conclusion of his solo exhibition, Working Out, at the Neues Museum Nürnberg (Nuremberg State Museum of Art and Design), which ran from 23 February to 25 May 2025. The innovative show featured over 100 objects spanning experimental furniture, material sculptures and architectural fragments.
Blurring the boundaries between studio and gallery, the exhibition transformed the museum into a dynamic creative laboratory where Daniel designed and fabricated new works in real time using 3D printing, CNC milling and robotic arms. The exhibition's title, ‘Working Out’, referenced both the physical and mental processes of creative work and the visible development of artistic solutions.
The space displayed raw materials, tools, moulds and machinery alongside finished pieces, showcasing the complete spectrum of the creative process. It also provided opportunities for direct participation in digital design processes through interactive workshops where visitors could engage with Daniel’s methods in real time, including VR sculpting and using generative digital tools.
Daniel’s work explores the intersection of art, design and technology. Previous collaborations include 3D-printed dresses developed with Iris van Herpen, named one of Time magazine's Best Inventions of the Year. His sculptures and installations have been exhibited at the Centre Pompidou and the V&A Museum.
