Congratulations to The Bartlett School of Architecture graduate, Amy Bass (Architecture BSc, 2023), on receiving the prestigious Fulbright–New School Partner Award to study a master’s in architecture at Parsons School of Design, part of The New School in New York City.
The Fulbright Award provides full funding for UK graduates to pursue postgraduate study in the United States. Amy was selected from a strong applicant pool following a rigorous application and interview process based on academic excellence, cultural curiosity and leadership qualities. Through the award, she will spend two years exploring the intersection of architecture, politics and community-driven design.
Amy is passionate about social housing and how thoughtful design can strengthen social ties and promote equality. As a Fulbright scholar, she aims to explore innovative approaches to community-focused social housing, combining emerging technologies such as AI and computational design with traditional hand-drawing and craft-based methods.
Her research will examine inner-city housing design, focusing on human-centred, adaptable and sustainable urban environments. Amy hopes to return to the UK with fresh strategies to influence housing policy and contribute to building more inclusive, climate-resilient cities for the future.
I feel incredibly grateful to have received this scholarship. As a Fulbright scholar, I will explore how architecture and policy intersect to shape more equitable cities. I will be using film, hand-drawing and design research to communicate ideas that are both creative and socially grounded. I hope the next two years in New York City, known for its diversity and rich mix of cultures, will allow me to grow personally and professionally, while contributing to conversations around housing justice.
Since completing her studies at The Bartlett in 2023, Amy has been working at the world-leading practice Foster + Partners as an Architectural Assistant.
