The 3iF CPD masterclass was piloted in January 2025 and was delivered through a mix of online and in-person sessions in Nairobi, Kenya. The successful event equipped professionals with practical knowledge of integrated infrastructure design, stakeholder engagement and sustainable urban development.
Colleagues from The Bartlett School of Sustainable Construction, Dr Margarita Garfias Royo, Prof Priti Parikh and Eleonora Piga were involved in co-developing the CPD content and facilitating the masterclass. With a focus on real-world challenges, the masterclass incorporated lectures, interactive workshops, site visits and case studies to ensure its relevance and applicability.
The 3iF CPD masterclass aims to bridge a critical gap in existing professional training, addressing the complexities of upgrading informal settlements in a holistic, inclusive manner. The 3iF and all its products including the CPD masterclass are the result of a collaboration initiative between the UCL Engineering for International Development Centre (EfID), the Architecture Association of Kenya (AAK), the Institute of Engineers of Kenya (IEK) and Kounkuey Design Initiative (KDI) that has received three rounds of funding from the RAEng since the end of 2020.
