Adrian Siu (Architecture MArch, 2018) and Shi Qi Tu (Architecture BSc, 2015 and Architecture MArch, 2018) have created Rhythm of the Dragon, a pavilion for the 2024 Sai Kung Hoi Arts Festival in Hong Kong, celebrating Hong Kong’s fishing islands through architectural design and community engagement.
Located at High Island in Sai Kung, the pavilion responds to the natural rhythms of wind and tides, creating a dynamic dialogue with its coastal setting. The design was created in collaboration with local residents, whose personal stories and memories are woven into the artwork through hand-painted dragon scales. Each scale represents a distinct narrative from the community, creating a collective storytelling experience.
Built using recycled materials, the pavilion serves as both an art installation and a gathering space, inviting visitors to explore the intersection of local maritime culture and sustainable design.
Being part of the Sai Kung Hoi Arts Festival has been an incredible journey. Rhythm of the Dragon is a testament to the collective stories and creative spirit of High Island, transformed into a tangible experience that celebrates both cultural and environmental heritage.
