Every year at The Bartlett Summer Show, prizes are awarded to students across the exhibiting programmes, highlighting general excellence or specific achievements. This year a number of new awards were introduced, recognising the changing world and challenges that Bartlett students design for.
The Activism Prize has been awarded to projects that drive social or environmental change through the lens of activism. Initiatives tackle a broad spectrum of critical subjects, including but not limited to decolonisation and decarbonisation, accessibility, EDI, marginalised communities and underrepresented groups disadvantaged by the status quo within the built environment.
The Public Engagement Prize has been awarded to projects that involve the community in ways that are mutually beneficial to all parties and where both client and occupants are active participants. This award celebrates creative and innovative design framework solutions for inclusive participation.
The Retrofit Prize has been awarded to projects that use existing buildings or structures for the creation of a new architectural programme. This award is particularly interested in projects that focus on the reuse of materials and sustainable construction, and that also forge strong relationships with clients, stakeholders, occupants and the wider public.
The Spatial Equity Prize has been awarded to projects that are socially responsible and proactively inclusive of all people. They take into account affordability, fairness, safety, health, accessibility, diversity and decolonisation within the built environment.
Many of the prizes were generously supported by our partners, including:
- AHMM
- Victor Kite Family
- Council for Aluminium in Building
- Alma-nac
- Max Fordham
- Narinder Sagoo
Medals were also awarded by the exam board for projects of outstanding quality, originality, and verve.
This year's show is the school's largest exhibition to date, spanning all seven floors of 22 Gordon Street, and with projects by almost 900 students exhibited online in a parallel digital show.
All of this year's projects are available to explore online in our virtual exhibition space; select for ‘Awards’ on the Summer Show index to see a complete list of students who received prizes, scholarships and bursaries, medals, first-class honours and distinctions for their work.
