Energy Systems and Data Analytics MSc students come second in Energy Idea Challenge

The students from the Energy Systems and Data Analytics (ESDA) MSc at the UCL Energy Institute worked in a group to imagine an innovative and impactful app called ChangeWatt. The app would suggest changes to appliances to aid the shift to smart homes using non-intrusive load monitoring to assess when pre-existing appliances in the house need to be upgraded. The suggested upgrades would be suit the user's individual budget and usage needs.

The team consisted of Haley Taroli, Javier Klatovsky, Milo Moerkerke and Samira KElly from ESDA Msc along with August Weinbren (Connected Environments MSc at UCL).

The ESDA students were awarded second place after two rounds of competition which were assessed by a panel of experts including Ting Cooper, an analyst from Shell, Eugene Shwageraus, a nuclear engineer from the University of Cambridge and Sebastian Pont, a senior consultant at Baringa.
