The Board of Trustees holds a governing role at the Architecture Foundation, and its trustees are also board members of the New Architecture Writers programme, which is supported by the Architecture Foundation. The new appointments reflect a drive to achieve broader gender and ethnic representation across its board. The Young Trustees champion emerging voices and practitioners in the architectural professions, and platform issues that affect young people across the industry.
The Architecture Foundation named Bartlett alumni Lesley Lokko and David Ogunmuyiwa among the four newly elected additions to its governing Board of Trustees. Architectural History MA graduates Hiba Alobaydi and Maria McLintock are among five new appointments to the Architecture Foundation Young Trustees.
Lesley Lokko
Lesley trained as an architect at The Bartlett School of Architecture during the 1990s, and completed her PhD at The Bartlett in 2007. She is currently launching the African Futures Institute in Ghana, and in 2020 she became a Visiting Professor at The Bartlett. Lesley was recently awarded the 2020 RIBA Annie Spink Award and the Ada Louise Huxtable Contribution to Architecture 2021.
David Ogunmuyiwa
David is an architect and writer. He is the Principal of ArchitectureDoingPlace, which he founded in 2015. He completed an Architecture DipArch and his Part 3 at The Bartlett between 2003 and 2006. Before training as an architect, he worked as a housing officer for social landlords including Southwark, Lambeth, Tower Hamlets and Circle 33. In 2017 David was appointed as a Mayor’s Design Advocate, working with London City Hall and local councils to help improve design in the capital.
Hiba Alobaydi
Hiba is a writer and editor. She graduated from The Bartlett School of Architecture in 2016 with an Architectural History MA, and is an assistant editor at Foster + Partners. She has also worked as a freelance architecture and design journalist.
Maria McLintock
Maria completed her Architectural History MA in 2020 at The Bartlett. A curator and architecture/design historian, she is currently an assistant curator at the Design Museum. She is also a Visiting Lecturer in Architectural History and Theory at the School of Architecture, University of Limerick, and an Associate Lecturer in Design Theory at University of the Arts, London.
I am so honoured to have been selected as a Young Trustee at the Architecture Foundation and I look forward to working toward a more inclusive sector alongside this incredibly talented cohort of professionals. I empathise greatly with students graduating in the current socio-economic climate, as I cannot begin to imagine how hard it must be, so I also aim to instil some hope during my tenure.

Architecture is in urgent need of greater equity across race, class, gender and ability; an intersection of structural issues that the Architecture Foundation Young Network’s programmes and campaigning are continuing to unpack with lucid clarity. I’m honoured and thrilled to have been selected to contribute to these discussions and initiatives, actively listening to, and creating space for, communities who are too often omitted from architectural debate.
