The Jonathan Speirs Scholarship Fund (JSSF) provides support to architectural students who wish to enter the architectural lighting design profession. Krina, who is currently studying in her final year of Architecture MArch at The Bartlett, was chosen as a winner for her outstanding design research into lighting as an interface for mixed reality environments.
Krina’s work explores the idea that light, when used as a building material, is able to transcend an architectural space beyond its physicality. Her design project attempts to imagine how the domestic realm will be affected by the evolution from 2D computer interfaces to 3D inhabitable digital environments in the domestic realm.
During her practical work experience with Kohn Pedersen Fox Associates, Krina designed a light system for a façade in Shenzhen, China, and also created a responsive skylight system for a technical dissertation.
Being awarded the Jonathan Speirs Scholarship was a great honour! I would like to thank the JSSF for their generosity, as well as Bartlett staff Penelope Haralambidou, Michael Tite and Julia Backhaus for their support and confidence in my work. I am very excited about the future potential of my research and how it can evolve beyond the academic environment.
