Study project management for construction in the heart of London with a fully funded scholarship

Earlier this month, UCL’s Faculty of the Built Environment launched The Bartlett Promise – a long-term project offering scholarships worth a total of £1.2 million per year to students from underrepresented backgrounds.

The Promise scholarships will cover students’ fees, living and study costs for the duration of their degree. For the Promise’s first year, scholarships are open to students from the UK and EU countries applying to undergraduate degrees at three Schools in The Bartlett, including the School of Construction and Project Management. 

BSc Project Management for Construction at The Bartlett

Our undergraduate degree, BSc Project Management for Construction, is management-based, focusing on the project management of capital projects and the pioneering sustainable initiatives influencing the future of construction.

This degree is also available as a four-year sandwich course, with a year completed on placement in industry. The placement year introduces you to the real-life experience of working in the construction sector alongside industry professionals.

Joshua Obichere on his hopes for the future

We interviewed Joshua during the first year of his undergraduate degree course. He was recognised for his enthusiasm during the CIOB Novus Bright Futures Challenge 2017 and was granted a two-week placement with Berkeley Group in July 2017. Joshua graduated in July 2019 and is now Assistant Design Manager at Mace. 

“I believe that the lecturers see us as future project managers. This makes a big difference in our learning because it helps us aspire to become project managers.”

Nicholas Omar on the Faculty travel scholarship he won to undertake independent study abroad

Nicholas won the Herbert Henry Bartlett Travel Scholarship to carry out independent research abroad in the summer of 2017. Nicholas used the funding to visit the Papua region of Indonesia, to explore sustainable development on the Trans Papua project - a major infrastructure project led by the Indonesian government. 

“I would say the exposure to new ideas and opportunities is what contributed the most to my personal development. From learning innovative approaches to project management to developing a project, I felt I have gained a fresh view over potential opportunities for the future.” 

Emily Churchill on developing her career in project management

Emily graduated from the BSc Project Management for Construction (sandwich) course in 2017. When we caught up with Emily, she worked for Buro Four as an Assistant Project Manager. Previously, Emily worked on various small sustainable building projects in South East Asia and Australia, which prompted her move into sustainable construction.

“I want to become a great project manager, and that comes with working with and learning from people who are good and have a plethora of experience.” 

Jamie Hart on how he balanced work, study and leading a student society

Last year, we caught up with Jamie, the previous President of the UCL Construction and Property Society. As well as leading a student society while studying, Jamie worked part-time for Gardiner & Theobold, where he now works as an Assistant Surveyor.
