On 22 March 2019, a high-level group of thought leaders from across Canada representing engineering, construction, academia and all levels of government came together to launch the process of building a national ‘Roadmap to Resilient, Ultra-Low Energy Built Environment with Deep Integration of Renewables in 2050’. The aim of the discourse and roadmap is to support Canada’s aim of achieving at least an 80% reduction in greenhouse gas emissions from new and existing buildings by 2050.
Dr Ian Hamilton, from the UCL Energy Institute, was invited to join the conversation and bring perspectives of the UK and Europe’s low carbon energy transition for new and existing buildings to the discussion.
This initial discussion resulted in a communiqué published by the Canadian Academy of Engineering:
