Luke and Sandra’s architectural design studio You+Pea was selected from 75 submissions to create an installation for this year’s London Festival of Architecture theme ‘Boundaries’ at the RIBA’s Architecture Gallery.
The installation, ‘Playing the Picturesque’, will ask whether the fluidity of the boundaries between physical and virtual realms allows us to consider virtual worlds as architectural sites in their own right.
Taking a series of scaled folly structures extracted from real picturesque landscapes, the installation will use digital projections to extend them into interactive virtual game environments, growing and changing in response to the movement of visitors.
The selected proposal by You+Pea presents a unique exploration of architectural space. Using videogaming it points towards future opportunities for designing across the boundaries of the real and virtual while providing visitors to the Architecture Gallery with an exciting, performative experience.

‘Playing the Picturesque’ will be on display at RIBA’s HQ building, 66 Portland Place in London, from 04 June 2019 until August as part of the London-wide festival of architecture.
