The Engineering and Physical Sciences Research Council (EPSRC) studentship is available for any PhD candidates at The Bartlett School of Architecture, provided that the candidate's research falls within the EPSRC remit.

The studentship covers fees at the Home/EU rate, and successful applicants who are British citizens or meet the UK residency requirements are also able to receive a tax-free annual stipend at the current UCL/EPSRC rates.

In order to be eligible, candiates must apply for their 2018 PhD studies by the studentship deadline and must not already have any major scholarships from other sources.

Applicants are strongly encouraged to contact the academic supervisor most suited to their research area and to send a draft proposal for discussion before applying.

The application deadline for the scholarship is 4pm on Friday 1 June 2018.

How to apply

  1. Check the eligibility criteria: Applicants should follow the guidance linked above to ensure their application is not disqualified for administrative reasons.
  2. Apply for MPhil/PhD studies: Applicants should complete the online application form on the UCL Postgraduate Application and Entry page. Applicants should include 'EPSRC PhD Studentship' in the Additional Funding Information section of the application form and ensure that their references, transcripts and other information are in place so that the application can be considered in time. Please note: candidates must have applied by Friday 1 June 2018, but don't need to have been accepted for PhD studies in order for the studentship application to be considered. Candidates who have already applied for a PhD should indicate this in their studentship application (point 3).
  3. Apply for the EPSRC studentship: In addition to an application for studies, applicants should email the following documents to s.hanna@ucl.ac.uk: (a) a one-page letter addressed to Dr Sean Hanna, Departmental Graduate Tutor, explaining how and why the applicant and their research are suitable for support by this studentship, including why it is relevant to the EPSRC, (b) a two-page research proposal, and (c) a one-page CV. Applicants should write ‘EPSRC PhD Studentship’ in the subject line of the email so that the application reaches its destination. The deadline is Friday 1 June at 4pm.
