  • Rockefeller Foundation and IIPP join forces to transform the public sector

The Rockefeller Foundation is funding two Senior Research Associate roles in Public Value and Digital Transformation at IIPP to work with its Mission-Oriented Innovation Network (MOIN). The aim of MOIN is to develop a new policy toolkit to help transform public organisations to meet the challenges of the 21st century. It is a global network that includes state investment banks, innovation agencies and other public organisations—with missions in specific fields to achieving concrete goals.

Zia Khan, Vice President, Innovation, the Rockefeller Foundation says: “For more than 100 years, the Rockefeller Foundation has made long-term investments in individuals and organizations to improve the well-being of people everywhere. This network will help all of us learn best practices in mission-oriented innovation from around the world, providing a creative platform for collaboration and learning-by-doing.”

Professor Rainer Kattel, IIPP’s Deputy Director, says: “Digital tools are too often seen as a way of lowering costs in the public sector, but digital transformations offer wider opportunities to create public value. Our work with the Rockefeller Foundation will look at how we can move on from this restrictive narrative, so that digital technology can be more transformative and shape the future of the state.”

Professor Mariana Mazzucato, IIPP’s Director, adds: “IIPP wants to reimagine the public sector as a major player in creating markets and driving innovation. Through MOIN we are working with people at dynamic institutions facing real-world challenges and, together, we will create a cutting-edge blueprint for the future of policy making. We’re delighted the Rockefeller Foundation has joined us in our mission and look forward to developing a fruitful partnership that has the potential to reimagine the public sector across the world.”
