The Engineering and Physical Sciences Research Council (EPSRC) have funded a 5-year project to develop a Smart Meter Research Portal (SMRP) to provide vital access to energy data for the UK research community. Led by UCL Energy Institute, the consortium consists of University of Essex (UK Data Archive/Service), University of Edinburgh, Cardiff University, Loughborough University, Leeds Beckett University, University of Southampton, The Energy Saving Trust.

As a core member of the SMRP team, this post will support the research programme of the SMRP project and provide key input to the design and development of the SMRP portal. As such, this role will be required to engage with SMRP partners (particularly the Big Data team at the University of Essex), and a range of SMRP stakeholders (including BEIS and other government departments).

Funding is available for 5 years in the first instance, (until August 2022) further funding to support the post may be available

Key requirements

The successful applicant will have a post-graduate degree with a strong statistical or data/computer science component or substantial experience in the energy sector or comparable working environments. The candidate must have demonstrable applied experience of working with large datasets, preferably in High Performance Computing environments. Preference will be given to applicants with experience of working with smart meter data (or similar high resolution energy data).
