  • Leading global thinkers join IIPP’s Advisory Board

The Advisory Board will steer IIPP’s strategic approach, as it rethinks the way in which notions of public value and public purpose can be used to foster and drive the innovations needed to tackle grand societal and technological challenges.

The members are (in alphabetical order):  

  • Mike Bracken (Head of Digital, the Co-operative Group; formerly Executive Director of Digital in the Cabinet Office, UK)
  • James K. Galbraith (Lloyd M. Bentsen Jr. Chair in Government/Business Relations, Lyndon B. Johnson School of Public Affairs and a professorship in Government, University of Texas at Austin)
  • Jayati Ghosh (Professor of Economics at the Centre for Economic Studies and Planning, School of Social Sciences, Jawaharlal Nehru University, New Delhi, India)
  • Hermann Hauser (Entrepreneur, co-founder of Amadeus Capital)
  • Dan Hill (Associate Director at Arup and Head of Arup Digital Studio; formerly Sitra, Fabrica, and UK Future Cities Catapult)
  • Hadeel Ibrahim (Founding Executive Director of the Mo Ibrahim Foundation)
  • Roly Keating (Chief Executive Officer, the British Library; formerly BBC broadcaster and executive)
  • Stephanie Kelton (Professor of Economics at the University of Missouri-Kansas City, Economic Advisor to Bernie 2016 presidential campaign)
  • Roger Martin (Professor and Dean of the Martin Prosperity Institute, University of Toronto, Canada)
  • Cornelia Parker (Artist; official UK general election artist, 2017)
  • Alan Penn (Professor in Architectural and Urban Computing and Dean of Faculty, Built Environment at UCL Bartlett)
  • Carlota Perez (IIPP Honorary Professor, Centennial Professor London School of Economics; author of the influential Technological Revolutions and Financial Capital: the Dynamics of Bubbles and Golden Ages) 
  • Jeffrey Sachs (Special Advisor to UN Secretary General Antonio Guterres)

IIPP Director Mariana Mazzucato said: “I’m honoured to be working with such an inspiring group of leaders in the their fields, who will help shape the strategic direction of the new Institute for Innovation and Public Purpose.  Tackling the grand challenges of our age requires actors in the public, private and third sectors to work together in new and dynamic ways in order to drive innovation. Each member of our board has a unique and visionary insight into the challenges and opportunities this presents.”
