  • Big data research at the heart of strategic academic partnerships with leading Chinese universities

With support from UCL’s Global Engagement Fund, Dr Xuxin Mao, Lecturer in Economics at The Bartlett School of Construction and Project Management visited Tsinghua University (THU) and Renmin University of China (RUC), between 25 July and 30 July 2017, to present his research on big data analysis of housing markets in China and UK, and establish relationships between CPM and related schools at some of the most prestigious universities in China.

The aims of Xuxin’s visit were:

  • To facilitate the set-up of strategic partnerships of CPM with related schools at THU and RUC
  • To present CPM’s research on big data analytics and prediction on real estate and related topics
  • To foster links between CPM and real estate and related big data industries in China

Over the course of his visit, Dr Mao visited three school programmes within the two universities. He presented his research on big data, met senior faculty members and industry experts, and initiated links with related big data providers and real estate builders in China. The visit helped form research and teaching collaboration between CPM and THU’s School of Public Policy and Management (SPPM), RUC’s Department of Land Management and RUC’s School of Economics.

Dr Mao’s intensive activities during the week not only generated research and teaching partnerships beneficial to UCL, but also enabled The Bartlett to contribute to relevant public policy discussion relating to the global built environment.

Xuxin will return to China in August 2017 to discuss further details of conferences, training, degree and exchange programmes, and the establishment of a Construction and Real Estate Big Data Research Centre.
