The renowned artist collective Marshmallow Laser Feast (MLF) join The Bartlett School of Architecture's Interactive Architecture Lab this year as Artists in Residence bringing their unique combination of visual art, technology hacking and experience design to the School.

MLF will contribute to new areas of investigation in virtual and augmented reality research as well as teaching Interactive Architecture Lab (RC3) students on the School's MArch Architectural Design (AD) programme.

'After a number of years of collaborating with MLF on commercial projects, we’re delighted to be having this opportunity to explore very open-ended research with such a talented group of artists.' says Bartlett Lecturer and Interactive Architecture Lab Director, Ruairi Glynn. 'We’ve already had some interesting workshops with Oculus Rift, Projection mapping and Robotics. In the coming months we aim to synthesis these into exciting new projects with our students.'

MLF is a creative studio exploring the line between virtual and real-world experiences. Headed by Robin McNicholas and Barney Steel, their interests are routed in creating people-centred, live interactive work. They have designed and delivered highly aesthetic and evocative showstoppers in collaboration with many brands, musicians, advertising agencies, event organisers and art institutions. Their work for U2’s 'Invisible' Super Bowl promo and the Saatchi & Saatchi New Directors’ Showcase has brought a plethora of digital art experiences to the live environment. And MLF recently joined forces with Chris Milk’s Vrse.works to explore the new world of virtual reality.

Situated within the 12-month Masters programme, MArch AD, the Interactive Architecture Lab gives students an opportunity to exploit the potential of new sensing, computation, networked and responsive technologies to imagine, build and test new spaces of interaction.
