Peter, who is due to join the school on 1 July, served as the government’s adviser from December 2012 to November 2015. During this time, he played a key role in developing the Construction 2025 strategy: a long-term vision that sets out how industry and government work together to put Britain at the forefront of global construction.

Prior to this, Peter was an executive director at the Nichols Group where he was engaged in strategic consulting and advising on infrastructure developments and capital investment programmes. He served as the 146th President of the Institution of Civil Engineers from 2010 to 2011.

Peter Hansford said, “I’m excited to be joining the Bartlett at UCL, which is has built a reputation as the most innovative faculty in the UK for the Built Environment. Along with other areas, I’m keen to continue working on thought-leadership for industry business models in construction.”

Professor Alan Penn, Dean of The Bartlett Faculty of the Built Environment, commented: “I’m very pleased that Peter Hansford is joining UCL. His experience as the chief construction adviser to the UK government and across the wider industry, will add tremendous value to The Bartlett School of Construction and Project Management.”

Peter brings to the school over 30 years of experience in the development and delivery of major infrastructure and building projects. He will draw on his extensive experience in UK infrastructure through his previous positions as executive director of Infrastructure at the Strategic Rail Authority, non-executive board director of Crossrail, and independent non-executive programme board member for the Thames Tideway Tunnel. He will also strengthen the school’s links with professional bodies such as the Association for Project Management, the Institution of Civil Engineers and the Royal Academy of Engineering, of all of which he is a Fellow.
