Izaskun Chinchilla Architects, the practice of Bartlett School of Architecture design tutor Izaskun Chinchilla, recently won an international competition organised by ARCOmadrid, AD Magazine and El Corte Inglés, to design and build the VIP lounge for the 35th ARCO Madrid International Contemporary Art Fair.

The VIP lounge, a space of 1,200 square meters, with a restaurant for 100 people, a lounge area, information desks, was launched at ARCOmadrid in late February 2016. In the jury's decision, the design conveyed 'both the philosophy of the fair, by referring to the art world, and the values of the brand of El Corte Inglés.' They also highlighted its 'commitment to the environment, using recycled materials and elements that may be, in turn, reused in the future.'

Focusing on sustainability, innovative structural solutions and temporality in public architecture, the design builds upon Izaskun's existing research at The Bartlett to develop new knowledge and systems adding to the critical body of research around these subjects, and to engage new audiences.

Izaskun Chinchilla leads MArch Architecture Unit 22 with Carlos Jimenez at The Bartlett School of Architecture. Her architecture and design studio Izaskun Chinchilla Architects is based in both London and Madrid.
