Izaskun Chinchilla Architects, the practice of Bartlett MArch Architecture Unit 22 tutor Izaskun Chinchilla, have unveiled a pavilion on New York's Governors Island, after winning the 2015 City of Dreams International Competition run by the NYC government, FIGMENT, AIANY-ENYA and SEAoNY.

Built out of waste materials, the 95m2 canopy 'Organic Growth', promotes biking and allows 500,000 visitors to chill out under New York biggest flower bunch.

The pavilion, housed alongside the 'Billion Oyster' pavilion by New York-based BanG Studio, is made from reusable materials - broken umbrellas, bicycle wheels, and old stools - to address environmental challenges facing New York and beyond. After the end of the summer the canopy will be broken up and distributed to sites across the city for use as smaller shade structures or used inside as decorative chandeliers.

The project was made possible through a successful Kickstarter campaign. It has since been featured in articles on Dezeen, Curbed, Architectural Digest, Archdaily, and AJ.

You can see Izaskun's Bartlett design unit, Unit 22 in the Bartlett Summer Show, opening on 27 June 2015 in our new temporary space in 140 Hampstead Road. You can find more information on the show page.
