Bartlett PhD candidate Moritz Behrens and MSc Adaptive Architecture and Computation (AAC) student Konstantinos Mavromichalis have won the annual ‘No.8@Arup’ competition with their installation ‘The Sentiment Cocoon’. The installation is one of five entries shortlisted for the Arup prize, which aims to shine a light on emerging architectural practices.
The Cocoon, which will be made on site at Arup’s offices, is an interactive installation designed to capture people’s sentiments and these are then depicted through the medium of light. Designs for the Cocoon are now being progressed and will be project managed by Greg Chandler, an engineer from the Buildings London group, who will be responsible for delivering this year’s winning installation in the atrium space of No.8 Fitzroy Street.
Moritz Behrens is an architect and an alum of The Bartlett’s MSc AAC, and is currently a Bartlett PhD Architectural Space and Computation candidate looking at Media Architectural Interfaces. He was recently selected to display his ongoing work of Smart Citizen Dashboard (SCSD) at the connecting cities events during the Arts Electronica Festival in Austria. MSc AAC student, Konstantinos Mavromichalis, is a lighting designer, his work explores communication, architecture, and human interaction with a focus on responsive environments.
‘The Sentiment Cocoon’ will be open to the public at Arup’s atrium space on No.8 Fitzroy Street in May 2015.
