A group of six students and alumni from The Bartlett School of Architecture’s BSc Architecture UG1 programme have won raumlaborberlin’s Shabbyshabby Apartments
competition to design and build an ‘apartment that everyone can afford’ in Munich, Germany.
The winning entry ‘Bindegewebe’ consists of a small inhabitable shelter made out of plastic barrels, polycarbonate sheeting and a rope canopy. It is intended to be a playful, elevated private sleeping space, with an inviting communal space underneath – tied together quite literally by a continuation of materiality.
The design is one of 20 projects selected by a Jury that included, Elisabeth Merk, Director of the Munich Planning Department, Chris Dercon, Director of Tate Modern, Hans-Georg Küppers, Director of the Department of Arts and Culture of Munich.
The students will travel to Munich at the beginning of September to build their design in just 9 days. The apartment will go to then be rented out until the winter and dismantled.
