Professor Adrian Forty, Professor Iain Borden, PhD student Ricardo Agarez and graduating Masters student Isabelle Priest from the Bartlett School of Architecture have been nominated for the RIBA President’s Awards for Research 2013.
Adrian Forty is shortlisted for his recent publication Concrete and Culture: A Material History (Reaktion 2012) and Iain Borden for Drive: Journeys through Film, Cities and Landscapes (Reaktion 2013), both in the category of ‘Outstanding University-located Research’. Ricardo Agarez is shortlisted in the category of ‘Outstanding PhD Thesis’ for ‘Regionalism, Modernism and Vernacular Tradition in the Architecture of Algarve, Portugal, 1925-1965’. Isabelle Priest is shortlisted for the relatively new award of ‘Outstanding Master’s Degree Thesis’ for her MA Architectural History thesis Coming Clean: In search of Le Corbusier’s cleaners in his Parisian domestic architecture, 1922-1934.
The awards champion high quality research and encourage its distribution and incorporation into the wider profession. They raise the profile of those architects and academics engaged in research, and highlight the need for research across the profession to foster innovation and strategic thinking.
The winners will be announced in October and will receive their awards in December.
