  • Alex Murray presents at International Conferences

Alex Murray, a Teaching Fellow in Construction and Infrastructure Economics, will be presenting 2 papers at international conferences this coming May.

In Hong Kong Alex will attend a two day conference on Housing and Construction co-ordinated by the Hong Kong University and the Honk Kong Housing Association. The paper to be presented is co-authored with Graham Ive and, MSc student, Alberto De Biasio. Alex, who had been, impressed with the assessment of Alberto’s Core Module The Economics of Construction – Economics, Sectors and Industry subsequently used this as a basis for a paper looking at the determinants and dispersion of UK Housing Developer profitability.

In Brisbane, Australia, joined by fellow colleagues from C&PM Alex will present at the four day 2013 CIB World Congress. This paper focusses on putting forward a form of graphical representation to better communicate relative benefits (and disadvantages) of alternative procurement options, including integrated forms of contracting such as PFI. This work forms part of a developing strand of research in this area that is the basis for Alex’s on-going PhD. Illona Kusuma will also be presenting her paper ‘The interplay between organisational culture and business development in the (TMO): service (in)coherence and the implications to marketing’.

This fantastic opportunity will allow Alex to expose his on-going research to international peer review, help develop international academic networks as well as raise the profile of the School globally.
