CALL FOR PARTICIPANTS
Learning Exchange: Exploring mobilisation experiences for more equitable city-making in Salvador da Bahia and London
When: September 7-14, 2018
Where: London
Who: Students, academics, practitioners and community representatives
Deadline for Application: August 3, 2018
Join us in a 10-day learning exchange on strategies to advance towards more equitable city-making in Salvador and London. This workshop builds on the partnership between The Bartlett Development Planning Unit of University College London and the research group Lugar Comum from the faculty of architecture of the Federal University of Bahia (Brazil). Since 2016, Lugar Comum and the team from the Masters in Social Development Practice of the DPU have been running annual 2-week workshops focused on exploring how urban collectives have mobilised to advance Right to the City in Salvador. This learning exchange will bring students, academics and representatives from social movements from Salvador to London to share their experiences and learn from the context and experiences of struggling for more equitable city-making in London.
The key learning questions for the exchange are:
- What are the urban development trends that urban collectives in London and Salvador are focusing on when advocating for more equitable city-making?
- What are the common and different claims by these collectives in Salvador and London?
- What are the mobilisation strategies employed by these groups and what have been their successes and challenges?

There is a participation fee of £150. We have few slots for participants for community members and representatives for whom the fee will be waived. If you want to be considered for this scheme, please outline in your application. Food and transport costs of participants during workshop activities will not be covered.
We encourage those who are interested to apply as soon as possible, as there are limited places for participants based in the UK.
To apply, please send an email to Federica Risi (federica.risi.15@ucl.ac.uk) with a statement of interest to participate in this event and your CV.
