About the Early Career Research Committee

Are you an ECR with an interest in collaborative research such as research methods, collaborative practice and careers support? If so, we have a career development opportunity for you.

We are recruiting nine ECRs, one representative from each Bartlett department, to establish a committee in support of a new network for ECRs within the faculty. The group will formulate and organise a faculty wide, cross disciplinary activity programme to support ECRs within the network from all departments within the Bartlett. The committee will be supported by the Vice Dean Research and will have access to leadership committees and wider governance structures within the faculty.

What do we mean by "Early Career Researcher"?

We take Early Career Researchers to mean researchers (inclusive of Teaching Fellows undertaking research) who are:

  1. Immediately post doctorate (early stage ECR) or
  2. Transitioning to independent researcher (usually up to eight years from PhD award).

However, if you feel that you fall outside these parameters, but still identify as an ECR than you are very welcome to apply and be involved within the network. PGR students are welcome to apply, but would need to have approval from their supervisor to ensure that they can make the time commitment and manage their workload accordingly.

Commitment and role

This role is a commitment of a minimum one hour a week (approximately half day a month over the annual period), and involves:

  • Attending ECR Committee meetings (minimum one per term/three per annum).
  • Initiating, organising and coordinating the programme of activities.
  • Promoting the visibility of the ECR network to other Bartlett ECRs and UCL domain ECR groups

The group is supported by the Vice Dean of Research and the Research & Impact team from the Bartlett faculty office.

Benefits of the role

  • Gain knowledge and experience of cross faculty working and cross disciplinary partnerships.
  • Develop and expand your research networks within the Bartlett, UCL and beyond.
  • Creatively contribute to UCL’s ECR development programme (workshops, panel discussions, networking events, etc.)
  • Work closely with established academics and other ECRs.

Who can apply

  • Anyone who identifies as an ECR based within any department within The Bartlett.
  • Researchers participating or interested in creating a collaborative community and supporting the research environment within the faculty.
  • Individuals with the ability to commit a minimum of one hour a week to the role.

We particularly welcome Black and ethnic minority and/or women applicants as they are under-represented within UCL at this level.

How to apply

Please complete this form and provide a short summary outlining your interest in being part of the committee, and which role(s) you would like to be considered for by Friday 31 January 2025, 5:00 pm GMT.
