Studying at UCL Institute for Global Prosperity
The mission of the Institute for Global Prosperity is to rethink what prosperity means for people around the globe. The world urgently needs global change leaders who can think beyond crises and current models and design new routes to prosperity. Through our programmes you will learn to challenge assumptions, re-write questions and create new definitions. You will examine our institutions and consider new, radical approaches towards economic, social and cultural prosperity.

The IGP undertakes pioneering research that seeks to dramatically improve the quality of life for this and future generations. Of particular importance to the IGP’s approach is the way in which it integrates non-academic expertise into its knowledge generation by engaging with governments, policy makers, business, civil society, and local communities.
The Institute is led by Professor Henrietta L. Moore. A leading global thinker on prosperity, Professor Moore challenges traditional economic models of growth arguing that to flourish communities, businesses and governments need to engage with diversity and work within environmental limits. Her work crosses disciplines, from social science to the arts to business innovation and she applies these different perspectives to inform research and policy at all levels.

Our Research
Working in multiple locations around the world, our Prosperity Indexes, Boards and Laboratories turn citizen led measures and research into policy applications. We have major research projects in the UK, Lebanon and Kenya. We engage students with projects including the RELIEF Centre's work on delivering inclusive and prosperous futures for communities impacted by mass displacement, Prosperity Co-Lab Kenya’s focus on natural and social prosperity in Africa and research into past, present and future determinants of prosperity in East London. We also conduct pioneering work on welfare and Universal Basic Services and debt and Financing Prosperity.
Funding Opportunities
There are funding and scholarship options available to students who have an offer to study from the Institute for Global Prosperity (IGP).
IGP BAME Scholarship: The IGP is offering two partial scholarships to enable UK students from backgrounds under-represented at UCL to pursue their Masters studies at the Institute. The award provides £5000 towards tuition fees for the duration of the programme. Deadline: 31 May 2022. Full details are on our Funding your study webpage.
The Bartlett Promise Master's Scholarship: This scholarship aims to enable students from backgrounds underrepresented in The Bartlett to pursue master's studies at The Bartlett. The scholarship covers full tuition fees plus an allowance to cover living and study expenses (£15,364), for the normal duration of the programme at UCL. All Promise scholars will also receive on-going academic and career support during their study. Deadline is 31 May 2022. Full details are on The Bartlett website
The Bartlett Promise Sub-Saharan Africa Master’s Scholarship: This scholarship is open to applicants who are nationals of a Bartlett approved list of Sub-Saharan African countries pursuing a Bartlett master’s programme. Includes full overseas tuition fees, an allowance to cover living and study expenses (£15,364) for the normal duration of the programme at UCL, a flight to/from the UK, UK Study Visa costs, English language assessment costs, health test costs, master’s programme application fee costs and the NHS health supplement charge in the UK. All Promise scholars will also receive on-going academic and career support during their study. Deadline is 18 April 2022. Full details are on The Bartlett website
UCL Masters Bursary: The UCL Master Bursary aims to enable and encourage those from low-income backgrounds to pursue full-time Master's degree studies at UCL. The value of the bursary is £10,000. “My experience of the MSc Global Prosperity programme was nothing less than
outstanding. Apart from the multiplicity of seminars and workshops I was exposed to, the
programme was rigorous, flexible and allowed for a multidisciplinary approach which

research on fintech and financialization, and on the other, I was learning about how social

Commonwealth Shared Scholarship Scheme Student
As a graduate of the inaugural MSc Prosperity, Innovation and Entrepreneurship (PIE) programme, I look back on the year with immense pride. As someone who has progressed through each stage of education without a break, the course presented an opportunity to gain both theoretical knowledge and practical experience in the growing social sector. Alongside several internal innovation projects, I also had space to complete three internships that complemented my studies. The year was capped by a final collaborative project with a major London-based charity, which PIE had provided the tools and leverage to make it a success. Overall, an invaluable year-long experience.
