About UCL Institute for Global Prosperity
Our vision is to help build a prosperous, sustainable, global future, underpinned by the principles of fairness and justice, and allied to a realistic, long-term vision of humanity's place in the world. The IGP undertakes pioneering research that seeks to dramatically improve the quality of life for this and future generations. Its strength lies in the way it allies intellectual creativity to effective collaboration and policy development. Of particular importance to the IGP’s approach is the way in which it integrates non-academic expertise into its knowledge generation by engaging with decision-makers, business, civil society, and local communities.
IGP is part of The Bartlett Faculty of the Built Environment, the QS World University Rankings (2021) places The Bartlett, as the #1 for Built Environment studies in the UK and #2 in the World.
Our Research
Working in multiple locations around the world, our Prosperity Indexes, Boards and Laboratories turn citizen led measures and research into policy applications. We have major research projects in the UK, Lebanon and Kenya. We engage students with projects including the RELIEF Centre's work on delivering inclusive and prosperous futures for communities impacted by mass displacement, Prosperity Co-Lab Kenya’s focus on natural and social prosperity in Africa and research into past, present and future determinants of prosperity in East London. We also conduct pioneering work on welfare and Universal Basic Services and debt and Financing Prosperity.
Funding Opportunities
There are several different funding and scholarship options available to students who have an offer to study from the IGP.
- Commonwealth Shared Scholarship Scheme (CSSS): The aim of this scheme is to assist students from developing Commonwealth countries who are of excellent academic calibre but for financial reasons would not otherwise be able to afford to study in the United Kingdom. The scheme allows them to benefit from postgraduate study at a university in the United Kingdom which will help them to contribute toward the development of their home countries. IGP’s Global Prosperity MSc and Prosperity, Innovation and Entrepreneurship MSc are eligible for this year’s CSSS, the deadline is 9 April 2021 and full details are on our Funding your study webpage.
IGP BAME Scholarship: The IGP is offering two partial scholarships to enable UK students from backgrounds under-represented at UCL to pursue their Masters studies at the Institute. The award provides £2,500 towards tuition fees for the duration of the programme. Full details are on our Funding your study webpage.

Student Testimonials
“The Global Prosperity MSc allowed me to understand global challenges in a critical way,
to rethink problems based on new alternatives and inclusive research methods and to
experience, from IGP projects, how solutions can be addressed under real-world
conditions. The debate and conversation were beyond the classroom, with teaching staff
always keen to listen and encourage students’ ideas on transformation.
Silvia Velasco Arellano, Global Prosperity MSc Student (2019-20)
“My experience of the MSc Global Prosperity programme was nothing less than
outstanding. Apart from the multiplicity of seminars and workshops I was exposed to, the
programme was rigorous, flexible and allowed for a multidisciplinary approach which
meant I was able to pursue different academic interests. On one hand, I was conducting
research on fintech and financialization, and on the other, I was learning about how social
innovation labs could be adapted as impact tools for people and society. The Global
Prosperity MSc has taught me things that will remain with me for the rest of my life.
Shuaib Jalal-Eddeen. Global Prosperity MSc Student (2019-20)
Commonwealth Shared Scholarship Scheme Student
“I wanted to study a variety of metrics for economic growth outside of traditional financial
indicators and this programme's approach to the study of wellbeing was the perfect
complement to my background in history and political science. Working closely with the
IGP and its staff has been one of the highlights of my experience at UCL.
William Henagan, Global Prosperity MSc Student (2018-19)
