Benefits of scholarships to students

At the UCL Institute for Global Prosperity we’re redesigning prosperity for the 21st century, and we invite you to join us. Drawing from diverse disciplines such as economics, social sciences, sustainability, business, and innovation, we give students a holistic toolkit ready to address global challenges in careers in government, business and the third sector.

Our vision is to build a prosperous, sustainable global future underpinned by fairness and social justice and a long-term vision of humanity’s place in the world. Scholarships and funding play a vital role in alleviating the financial pressures of studying a postgraduate degreee in the UK and enable students to focus more clearly on their studies. Master's degree scholarships are particularly beneficial for helping students to study at a more advanced level. To help you make your way to our postgraduate degrees at the UCL Institute for Global Prosperity, we're committed to helping prospective students find master's scholarships.

Tips on the application process

  • Start your initial application as soon as possible: The Chevening application process involves multiple processes, so it's important to start this early by gathering your thoughts and documents.
  • Connect with previous Chevening scholarship recipients on LinkedIn: Ask for their support in crafting your application and join online groups for feedback as this can provide valuable insights into the application process.
  • Be specific in your application: Expand on your personal motivations, experiences and long-term goals using the STAR (Situation, Task, Action, Result) technique or the OREO structure (Opinion, Reason, Example, Opinion).
  • Tell your personal story: Break down your personal narrative into mini essays (heads up: this will help you in the interview stage).

Tips for interviews

  • Expand on what you have shared in your application: This is your opportunity to add detail to your personal story and respond confidently to Chevening scholarship interview questions.
  • Be prepared for critical questions: Anticipate and practice answering challenging questions about your goals, potential impacts, and problem-solving skills.
  • Show your passion and clear career path: Be explicit about how the Chevening award and studies on your chosen course, department and university align with your professional goals and future impact.
  • Know and articulate your unique value: Reflect on your unique strengths, values, and experiences, which can distinguish you as a candidate who can make distinct contributions to the university and meeting the objectives of Chevening Scholarship.
Receiving the Chevening Scholarship to join the master's programme in Global Prosperity was an incredible privilege. I still remember the overwhelming excitement when I received both the scholarship result from Chevening and the admissions result from UCL. This marked the beginning of a truly eye-opening journey that, as my supervisor often described, was 'challenging but very much worthwhile'.
