About
Geographical location and climate have greatly influenced the evolution of public spaces in cities. Economic activities and the accumulation or lack of wealth, define the scale, use and functions of public spaces.
Case studies of Bergamo in Italy, Abu Dhabi, and Al Ain pre-1971 in the United Arab Emirates as well as Ghana's suburban towns will be evaluated exploring the relationships between geography, culture and a diverse spectrum of social prosperity, ranging from wealth to extreme poverty. These case studies will link the individual character of public spaces to homogenous or multicultural societies, to cultural sustainability and citizen-driven climate action, to circular economy as well as urban and rural linkages.
