UCL Institute for Sustainable Heritage

Our research engages with complex, real-world heritage issues that demand world-class research expertise from numerous disciplines of the kind we can access here, in ISH, through the UCL Cultural Heritage Network and through our associations with other universities and other research institutions.

We collaborate on projects with distinguished partners, such as:

  • Tate
  • the Smithsonian Institution
  • Dyson
  • Philips
  • Department of Culture, Media and Sport
  • the House of Lords Science and Technology Select Committee
  • UK research councils

The focus of these projects ranges from examining the effects of climate and climate change on historic objects and sites, and studies of the conservation of plastic artefacts and the condition of books in major libraries, to a project to analyse the gaseous emissions and smell of heritage objects.
