We're hiring: Research Fellow in optical damage to heritage plastics

UCL Institute for Sustainable Heritage are looking for a Research Fellow to undertake research in optical damage to heritage plastics.

This is a one-year post to undertake research as part of the EU Horizon 2020 funded IPERION HS project. You will investigate the mechanisms, type and extent of damage to modern and heritage plastics caused by optical analysis techniques.

The post has funding for 12 months from the 01 January until the 31 December 2022 in the first instance, further funding to support the post may be available. 

Key requirements

We encourage applicants with a wide range of backgrounds to apply for this cross-disciplinary position. Our main criterion is a keen interest in and enthusiasm for interdisciplinary research. We expect to receive applications from applicants with a variety of backgrounds which may include chemistry, physics, engineering, and/or conservation. Expertise in polymer degradation, interactions of light with materials and a basic understanding of mathematical modelling are desirable but training will be provided. Experience working within the heritage sector is desirable but not essential.
