Winners of the 2019 ISH Photo Competition announced
4 November 2019
This year, dozens of University College London staff and students entered outstanding photographs on the theme of 'People Heritage'.
The entries were judged by UCL ISH Director Professor May Cassar, Visual anthropologist and artist Marcel-Reyes Cortes, 2018 winner Maija Powell and 2017 winner Ahmed Kawser.
People-centred heritage is not only about increasing formal participation mediated by experts such as education. People are increasingly engaging with their heritage for what it provides to their wellbeing, their sense of belonging and place-making. For many, heritage is integral to their lives and is as familiar as breathing. People’s heritage underlines the dynamic and mutually beneficial role of heritage in society.
The winners were announced and awarded prizes at a UCL ISH Guest Lecture delivered by ISH Deputy Director Prof Adam Gibson, Using medical imaging to study artworks, books and manuscripts, on 30 October 2019.
