Building with Blue Biomass Lectures
A series of short lectures exploring new methods, materials and techniques of designing and fabricating decarbonised buildings for a net-zero future.
Decarbonising buildings is essential for achieving a net-zero future, but conventional materials alone are not sufficient. A circular bioeconomy that incorporates carbon-storing materials and makes innovative use of biomass will be crucial to meet environmental and societal objectives.
Open to all UCL staff and students, this Building with Blue Biomass event invites speakers and participants to explore how organisms from the sea, lakes, streams and aquaculture – such as algae, kelp, shellfish and seagrass – can transform the built environment. The event highlights new approaches for reducing the carbon footprint of buildings and accelerating the transition to circular, renewable, bio-based materials.
