Rethinking China’s model of urban governance
Professor Henry Yeung from the Chinese University of Hong Kong and Professor Fulong Wu from UCL will share their insights on China’s model of urban governance.

The China Planning Research Group (CPRG) would like to invite you to join us. Professor Henry Yeung from the Chinese University of Hong Kong and Professor Fulong Wu from UCL will share their insights on China’s model of urban governance.
Each of them will give a 20-minute talk, followed by an open discussion. The event will be chaired by Professor Fangzhu Zhang from UCL. The title of Professor Yeung’s talk is ‘The Political Economy of David Harvey’s Neoliberalism “with Chinese characteristics”: Mixing/Messing the State with the Process of Neoliberalization?’.
The title of Professor Wu’s talk is ‘From entrepreneurial to managerial statecraft: New trends of urban governance transformation in post-pandemic China’.

Since January 2025, he is the Choh-Ming Li Professorship at the Department of Geography and Resource Management, The Chinese University of Hong Kong. He is the recipient of multiple research awards, including the 2022 Sir Peter Hall Award for Lifetime Contribution by the Regional Studies Association in the UK, the 2018 Distinguished Scholarship Honors by the American Association of Geographers, and the 2017 Murchison Award by the Royal Geographical Society (with IBG), UK.
Fulong Wu

Bartlett School of Planning, UCL
Professor Fulong Wu is a distinguished scholar in urban studies, currently serving as the Bartlett Professor of Planning at University College London.
Prior to joining UCL in 2011, he held academic positions at the University of Southampton and Cardiff University. Professor Wu's research focuses on urban development in China, addressing social and sustainability challenges. His notable publications include Planning for Growth: Urban and Regional Planning in China (2015), Creating Chinese Urbanism
