Play and Reflect: Engage with an interactive gaming station curated by Larry from his personal video game archive.
Critical Reading Installation: Explore texts that have shaped the critical and creative thinking of Larry and other artists.
Vibes: Enjoy a relaxed, alcohol-free environment. Come as you are and connect with others in a space designed for deep thought and open conversation.
This event is curated by Dr Janine Francois, of Mobile Agencies/Pedagogies based within The Bartlett School of Architecture, UCL. Mobile Agencies/Pedagogies is a reflexive, pedagogical pilot framework dedicated to exploring spatial and climate justice within architectural education and its connections to global design practices.

The internationally renowned artist Mary Evans, Director of the UCL Slade School of Fine Art, will engage in an intimate discussion responding to Larry’s work. Curated by Dr. Janine Francois, The Bartlett School of Architecture, especially for the staff and students of The Bartlett and Slade School of Fine Art. This event will delve into the intersection of art, architecture, and activism, where creative expression meets critical reflection.
Step into an evening where radical imagination meets creative action. Join artist and filmmaker Larry Achiampong to celebrate the release of his debut monograph, ‘If It Don’t Exist, Build It’ (Tate Publishing, 2025). He’ll be joined by an inspiring lineup of friends and visionaries Amahra Spence, Shay Thompson, and moderator Neba Sere for a lively conversation exploring world-building as a powerful tool for storytelling and social change.
Expect bold ideas, fresh perspectives, and a space where art, architecture, and activism collide.

Artist and Author
Larry Achiampong is a British Ghanaian artist who works in film, sculpture, installation, sound, collage, music, game design and performance. His works draw on popular culture, colonial legacies and his communal and personal heritage, through explorations of the digital realm. His debut feature film ‘Wayfinder’ was longlisted for a BAFTA in 2023; in 2025, Tate published his major monograph, ‘If It Don't Exist, Build It,’ exploring nearly 20 years of Larry’s practice.
Mary Evans is an internationally renowned artist whose practice explores diaspora, migration and cultural exchange. A Goldsmiths and Rijksakademie graduate, Evans merges fine art and craft traditions using kraft paper to examine power dynamics between Africa and Europe, centring Black bodies within narratives of resilience and memory. She has exhibited at Guangzhou Triennial (2008), Smithsonian (2010), Rockefeller Bellagio (2014), Lagos Photo (2018), META London (2022) and Zeitz MOCCA (2023).
Associate Professor & Director of Climate Justice
The Bartlett School of Architecture, UCLJanine Francois is an academic, educator and cultural producer whose interests pertain to climate (in)justice, feminist ethics of care, indigenous, de/anti colonial and Southern knowledges. Janine's approach to research entails live performances, exhibition, public programmes and community engagement to explore the aforementioned concerns. Janine is currently an Associate Professor and Director of Climate Justice, at The Bartlett School of Architecture, UCL.
Director, Hood Future Studio
Amahra Spence is an artist, curator, convener, strategist, researcher, systems designer and spatial practitioner. Hood Futures Studio is a community infrastructure organisation working at the intersection of spatial, climate, cultural and economic justice to address the root causes of 'hood displacement and dispossession. Through this platform, the studio invests in projects that support thriving Black life, community wealth and its interdependencies.
Associate Professor & Decolonising & Decarbonising Director
The Bartlett School of Architecture, UCLNeba Sere co-leads the decosm collective, which recently collaborated with Arup on the report 'Racial Equity and the City', examining the experiences of People of Colour in London. Neba is a Co-Director of Black Females in Architecture (BFA), BFA contributed to the film 'A Voice for the 450 Plus' for the 2023 Venice Architecture Biennale. Neba currently is a Design Researcher in Residency at the Design Museum exploring the parallels between anthropocentrism and colonisation.
Shay Thompson
Presenter and Broadcaster
Shay Thompson is a renowned presenter and broadcaster in the games industry, known for her charisma, warmth and professionalism. Her exceptional talent has earned her a reputation as a respected member of the industry and a go-to for speaking engagements and broadcast productions. She has collaborated with esteemed brands such as Bafta, BBC, McLaren, Xbox, Activision, Ubisoft, and others outside the industry.
Poet / DJ / Broadcaster
The Loose Egusi Afro Disco is a travelling party and radio show blending African and Afro-indigenous music with Afro-fusions, Afropop and Black music from across the diaspora. Armed with his deep vinyl collection, indestructible rhythms, and his infectious energy, the Repeat Beat Poet (The BoatPod, Soho Radio) carries his joyful resistance and potent funk to every dance floor, embodying and encouraging the most human freedoms; to dance, to sing, to feel, and to dream tthrough music.
