Exploring planning deregulation's consequences: the case of permitted development rights in England

Professor Ben Clifford

Professor of Spatial Planning and Governance

Bartlett School of Planning, UCL

His research and teaching are focussed on reform of the planning system in the UK and its relationships with broader questions of governance of the built and natural environment and the nature of the state. He has considered this in relation to devolution, outsourcing, policy implementation, infrastructure planning and housing quality and delivery. He has co-authored five books as well as numerous articles and his research on permitted development has been widely cited in the print media, by a parliamentary select committee and by the broadcast media. Ben is also the Programme Director for the MSc Spatial Planning and MSc Spatial Planning Degree Apprenticeship degree courses at UCL.
