In the context of mounting global challenges and deepening social inequalities, calls to decolonise public institutions and governance systems have gained increasing urgency. This session—part of the UCL Institute for Innovation and Public Purpose’s 2025 Forum: Rethinking the State—brings together scholars, practitioners, and community leaders to explore how public administration can be reimagined through decolonial lenses.
Focusing on the intersections of power, knowledge, and institutional design, the discussion will examine how colonial legacies continue to shape contemporary policy systems, and what it means to truly “decolonise” governance in practice. The panel will also reflect on insights emerging from two preceding hackathon workshops on open policy innovation and Health AI, showcasing new directions for inclusive and equitable public sector transformation.
