Connect with research students from across The Bartlett Faculty of the Built Environment while discovering the storied history and complex heritage of London’s docklands. The museum tour is free and will explore the background of east London’s merchant docks as well as documenting the contentious regeneration of the riverside neighbourhoods.
Discover more about London and get to know other PhD candidates across The Bartlett when you join this exclusive tour of London Museum Docklands. Set in a preserved Georgian warehouse in West India Quay, the museum offers a captivating and intellectually stimulating journey through the city’s urban, commercial and maritime development.
From the transatlantic slave trade, via the age of empire, to the rise of financial powerhouses in nearby Canary Wharf, the museum’s richly-stocked displays and exhibits provide a critical insight into some of the socio-economic forces that have shaped modern London. Researchers with a background in architecture, urban studies and sociology will also find the sections on urban regeneration particularly interesting.
There will be time to mix and mingle with fellow Built Environment researchers along the tour, as well as at the café afterwards.
The tour was inspired by feedback from research students, and has been enabled by the UCL ChangeMakers project.
The tour will be led by The Bartlett’s Student Experience Manager.
Spaces are limited so please book now to avoid disappointment, and you will be contacted with further details on how to join the tour.
Transport to the museum is not included.
