Making bigger projects, better – how researchers involve local stakeholders on megaprojects

In this event, we will discuss the preliminary findings that emerged from two recently funded projects by British Academy and UCL Global Engagement Funds, titled 'Improving the dialogue and knowledge transfer between local authorities and firms in sustainable megaprojects'.

We will deepen our understanding on how project organisations can improve knowledge transfer from projects to local authorities and, as such, improving the way their community is engaged and value distributed.

Improving the way local authorities achieve sustainable economic growth and infrastructure; reducing urban inequalities and creating wide-ranging partnerships in society as highlighted by the United Nation’s Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs 9,10,17) remain global challenges that needs to be addressed by researchers and policymakers. The seminar will discuss the patterns of tension and relevant implications of two major infrastructure projects in the UK (Tideway and HS2) and Brazil (Suape Port). Through a cross-national case study approach, the seminar aims to stimulate a constructive debate on how construction firms and local authorities can effectively collaborate to achieve better project performance and social impact.

The event will see the participation of managers and local authorities involved in such projects and builds upon over 60 interviews, direct observations, and published documents.
