REBEL DYKES (2021), Dir. Harri Shanahan, Siân A. Williams, duration: 90mins

In telling this fascinating but often forgotten queer history, directors Harri Shanahan, Siân A. Williams, have skilfully woven together archival material, animation, and re-enactments, as well as interviews with the dykes themselves, tracing a trajectory from Greenham Common to the streets, squats and clubs of London.

Crucially, the sheroes and queeroes of the documentary are not all cis, white lesbians, with contributions from women of colour, trans, non-binary and genderqueer people, intersex people and sex workers, raising complexities and exploring ruptures within LGBTQIA and feminist politics, communities and spaces.

Feat. Debbie Smith, Roz Kaveney, Del Lagrace Volcano, and many more.

CONTENT NOTE: The film includes descriptions and depictions of homophobic and transphobic violence and attitudes, kink and BDSM, nudity, drinking and drug use, family estrangement.
