Polar observation and earth modelling; future changes and natural prosperity

The Speaker: 

Julienne C. Stroeve received a PhD in geography from the University of Colorado Boulder, in 1996, for her work in understanding Greenland climate variability.  Subsequently she became a senior research scientist at the National Snow and Ice Data Center (NSIDC) at the University of Colorado, a Professor at University College London and more recently, a Canada 150 Chair at the University of Manitoba. Her Arctic research interests are wide-ranging, and include remote sensing of snow and ice, short and long-term sea ice forecasting, atmosphere-sea ice interactions, impacts of climate change within and beyond the Arctic. Her work has been featured in numerous news reports and documentaries. In 2020 she received the EGU Julia and Johannes Weertman Medal, awarded in recognition of outstanding scientific contributions to the study of sea ice. Her Scopus H-index is 55, and is consistently named by Clarivate as one of the mostly highly cited researchers.
