Green windows of opportunity: latecomer development toward sustainability
Join us to hear Rasmus Lema talk about his research on 'Green windows of opportunity: latecomer development in the age of transformation toward sustainability'. This talk will be chaired by IIPP’s Antonio Andreoni with a discussion from Keno Haverkamp (IIPP). Followed by questions from the audience.

The world is in the early stages of a paradigm transition toward a global green economy. In this talk we highlight opportunities and constraints to latecomer development associated with the mounting global transformation toward sustainability. Drawing on case studies of renewable energy industries in China, we highlight the importance of institutional changes in the creation of new opportunities for latecomer development. We emphasise how public demand and mission-guided technical change, together with sectoral characteristics, influence the directionality of latecomer development. This provides important insights regarding opportunities for green development in emerging economies, how these opportunities emerge and unfold in different renewable energy sectors and their implications for the global green economy.
