Join us to hear Thomas Marois talk about on his research on Public Banks at a time of COVID-19: Opportunities, threats, just transitions. This talk will be chaired by IIPP’s Dr Olga Mikheeva. The discussant is Judith Clifton, Professor and Founding Director of the Jean Monnet Chair of EU Economic Policy for Business & Civil Society at the Faculty of Business & Economic Sciences, University of Cantabria. This talk will be followed by questions from the audience.

He has fostered a global research and advocacy programme on public banks financing green and just transitions, with a particular focus on sustainable development and essential public services. Thomas is also a Research Associate at the Municipal Services Project and holds a Senior Lectureship in Development Studies at SOAS University of London. He collaborates with civil society research institutes, including the Transnational Institute, the Democracy Collaborative, and Eurodad, as well as with UN bodies like UNRISD, UNFfD, and UNCTAD. He sits on the Advisory Board of the US-based Public Banking Institute. Thomas has worked in the NGO, private, and public sectors in Canada and Latin America. In addition to co-editing the Public Banks and Covid-19 book, he is publishing a new single-author book with Cambridge University Press titled, Public Banks: Decarbonisation, Definancialisation, and Democratisation, due out in spring 2021.
