Integrated Building Design: 22 Gordon Street Redevelopment

About the event

Climate change, resource efficiency, health and wellbeing, social equity, smart buildings. Our world is changing rapidly; we are constantly facing unprecedented challenges and new opportunities to overcome them. In this seminar series we present the state of the art in the field through a wide range of case studies of detailed integrated architectural, environmental and structural design (exemplar buildings).

In the first seminar of the series, speakers from Hawkins\Brown and Buro Happold will discuss working on the 22 Gordon Street building. The building was redeveloped from the old Wates House, creating a new home for The Bartlett Faculty and The Bartlett School of Architecture.

The seminar will discuss:

• the need for the project
• how the brief was finalised
• the collaborative design development
• the design solution
• the Post Occupancy Analysis findings

The event will feature a presentation followed by an interactive Q&A session.

About the speakers

Euan Macdonald: Since joining Hawkins\Brown Euan has contributed towards a diverse portfolio of projects covering the residential, education and commercial sectors. More recently, he has developed a particular interest in Civic buildings, and the search for creative responses to the diverse needs of their communities.

Mark Dowson: Mark is an Associate in the Buro Happold Sustainability team in London. He is a Chartered Engineer, holds an Engineering Doctorate (EngD) in Environmental Technology, is an accredited CIBSE Low Carbon Energy Assessor and BREEAM AP.

Kenichi Hamada: Kenichi is an Associate in Building Services team in Buro Happold. He is a Chartered Engineer and a member of CIBSE. His project experience expands from London office floor fit-out to oversea high speed rail stations and a technical services manager at 2012 London Olympic & Paralympic games. His rich variation in project sectors allows him to approach any building design from diverse angles. Last 7 years, he has been leading a team of multidiscipline engineers for UCL framework projects, completing many refurbishment and major interventions. With his background, he has been taking technical advisor to some clients, helping them deliver successful projects. Kenichi leads modernisation / refurbishment sector of Building Asset Repurposing group within Buro Happold.
